The TALES you probably never heard about

REBECCA DEMARE

[Welland Tribune, 2 August 1878]

Rebecca Demare- The subject of this notice, was something more than one of the oldest residents of Welland, having lived in the locality for some 35 years-during the first past of which our town was yet a thing of the future. She was born in Crowland in 1820, and was a member of the large and well known family of the late Lewis Buchner of that township. She was nearly all her lifetime a member of the Methodist church dying peacefully after a long and lingering illness. A kind mother and a warm friend, her passing away has occasioned the most poignant regret  to a very large circle of relatives and friends, only relieved by the well-grounded belief that the change was for her eternal welfare-a translation from this state of weakness and suffering to that better land, where infirmity can never come. The funeral took place on Monday morning, service being held in the Methodist church.
