BOYLE [Welland Tribune March 20, 1945]

Boyle, March 20-Boyle Red Cross Sewing Circle met at the home of Mrs James Hill on Wednesday with a large attendance. Several members quilted a quilt which will be donated to the Red Cross, while the remainder sewed on children’s sun suits and little girls’ blouses. A pot luck dinner was enjoyed at noon, and the collection was received by Mrs Roy E. Overholt. During the afternoon, a contest conducted by the hostess, Mrs Hill was won by Mrs Wm. J. Anderson. Proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross.

Mr and Mrs William Cutler left on Tuesday to spend a few days with the former’s cousins, Mr and Mrs Howard McEwan ad family, Buffalo, N.Y.

Mr and Mrs Gordon Robbins, Niagara Falls, and John Hill were Sunday guests of their brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs James Hill.

Mrs Edsal Robins was a recent guest of her sister, Mrs Blake Robins.

Mr and Mrs Edgar Book of St Catharines were recent guests of the latter’s nephew ad niece, Mr and Mrs Leonard E. Cocks and sons, Ralph and Howard at Fenwick.

Miss Lellia Hill of Welland spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs James Hill.

Mr and Mrs Paul A. Comfort, sons George and David and daughter, Elizabeth, were recent guests of the latter’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs Charles Berry, St Catharines.

Misses Elizabeth and Shirley Robins, Tonawanda, N.Y. spent the weekend with their cousin, Miss Jean Heaslip.

Mrs Amos Beamer spent Thursday at Welland.

Mrs Tillie Robbins returned to the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Orin Tice, on Saturday after spending five months with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Roy Robbins, at Elmira.

Misses Jean Heaslip, Elizabeth and Shirley Robins of Tonawanda, N.Y. Jack Sherwood, Billy Heaslip and Cameron Hill were recent guests of the latter’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs Arnold Reid, Wainfleet.

Mrs Leonard E. Cocks and son, Ralph, Fenwick and the former’s sister, Mrs Wm. J. Anderson, spent Saturday at Welland.

Mr and Mrs Clifford C. Hill and son Gordon, of Fenwick, and Mr and Mrs Arnold Reid, Wainfleet were Sunday guests of their parents, Mr and Mrs James Hill.

Murray Hill and his uncle John Hill, spent Sunday afternoon at Niagara Falls.

Mrs Wm. J. Anderson spent Saturday with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs Leonard E. Cocks, Fenwick.

The sympathy of the Community is extended to Mrs Violet La Rose, Wellandport, who received word that her youngest son. Kenneth, had been killed with the armed forces in Germany. Kenneth  spent his childhood days in this vicinity, and attended public school S.S. No.5 Gainsboro township. He is also survived by his older brother. Walter, R.C.A.F and his grandparents, Mr and Mrs John Middleton, Wellandport.

Mr and Mrs Norval Lampman, and son Harold, Have taken up residence with the former’s parents, Mr and Mrs Isaac Lampman.
