FUNERAL SERVICES FOR LATE MRS J. CHAMBERS

[Welland Tribune December 12, 1943]

Salem Dec 13-A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral of the late Jeanette Chambers, wife of the late Wilson Chambers, who passed away at the Welland County General hospital on Monday, December 6. Services were held at her late residence, where Rev. James Hampson of Salem United church officiated. Interment was in Hillside cemetery.

During service, Mrs C.W. Bailey and Mrs A. Stirtzinger sang, “Just Beyond,” accompanied by Mrs Edward Hayward. The pallbearers were Amos Holmes, Orland Chambers, Roy Chambers, Harry Farr, Wm. Hipwell and Elra Farr. Surviving are a son, daughter-in-law and grandson; one sister, Mrs L. Chambers, Hamilton, and a brother, Oscar Robins.

Salem United Church W.A. and W.M.S. met at the home of Mrs Harold Gent on Wednesday, with a  good attendance. The president Mrs Harold Bailey, opened the meeting. The scripture lesson read by Mrs T. Neale. Two minutes silence was observed in honor of the late Mrs J, Chambers.

Mrs Elra Farr, missionary convener, took charge of the Christmas program. Carols were sung with Mrs Farr as the leader. Those taking part in the candlelighting service were Mrs C. Bailey, Mrs H. Bailey, Mrs F. Blanchard and Mrs H. Hodgkins. Mrs C. Strawn turned in $19 of the penny drive.

Rev. J. Hampson had charge of election of officers which were as follows: President, Mrs Howard Hodgkins; first vice-president, Mrs H. Gent; second vie-president, Mrs Harold Bailey; secretary, Mrs C. W. Bailey; assistant, Mrs John Blanchard; pianist, Mrs Edward Hayward; flower conveners, Mrs E. Haverson and Mrs Franklin Blanchard; missionary convener, Mrs Elra Farr; Red Cross, Mrs Harold  Bailey and Mrs M. Cook.. The meeting was brought to a close by Rev. J,. Hampson. Lunch was served by the hostess.

Personals
Mrs Amos Robbins and Mrs Kenneth Lane and daughter Rose Marie spent Monday with Mr and Mrs George Metler.

Mr and Mrs W. Gayman of Beamsville were supper guests of Mr and Mrs Ernest Brown and family on Friday.

Bdr O.F. Stokes of the east coast spent a short leave with his mother.
Mrs Kenneth Lane and Mrs Franklin Blanchard spent Tuesday in Welland.

Miss Margaet Strawn of Niagara Falls spent Tuesday at the home of her parents.

Mr and Mrs Amos Beamer and son Wray were Sunday evening guests of Mr and Mrs  J. Traver and daughter Irene.

Mr and Mrs William Gayman of Beamsville visited with Mr and Mrs C.E. Strawn and family, Friday evening.
