ELLEN McAULIFFE

ONE OF THE OLDEST RESIDENTS OF WELLAND PASSES AWAY

             Mrs. Ellen McAuliffe, who passed away at her home on Bald street, was one of the oldest residents of Welland.

             Her illness was of brief duration. Possessed of a keen and active mind and a kindly____and endearing herself with a host of friends.

             Few if any of the older residents could speak with pure authority of the early days of the Canadian waterways development, as her late husband, Michael McAuliffe, was actively associated for two score years or more as a dredging contractor in the _of the canal system of the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence.

             Mrs. McAuliffe’s maiden name was Kelly. Her family of one daughter, Margaret, and two sons, William J. and Frank P. reside in Welland.

             The funeral will take place on Monday morning. Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s church by the Rev. Father Bernard Doyle at 9 o’clock. Burial will be at St. Catharines.
