[Welland Tribune December 29, 1943]
Orin Fox, a resident of the community for the past 26 years, died this morning at his residence, 38 fourth avenue, Crowland, after a lengthy illness. He was in his 45th year.
For the past six months the late Mr. Fox had been plant foreman at the Electro-Metallurgical Company of Canada, Ltd., and previously was traffic foreman at the same plant for 15 years. His illness caused him to leave work about three weeks ago.
Deceased was a member of Cope-Stone lodge, A.F. & A,M, and I.O.O.F. No. 134. He was also a member of St Andrew’s Presbyterian church and formerly served on the Crowland township school board.
Surviving are his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Cecil Chadwick, Tiillsonburg, and Mrs. Orval Dean, Wainfleet; and a brother George, also of Wainfleet.
The funeral will be held from the H.L. Cudney funeral chapel, 241 West Main street, on Friday afternoon at 2.30 o’clock, to Fonthill cemetery for interment. Rev. A.D. Sutherland, minister of St. Andrew’s church will officiate.

Well-known in the city in which he had resided for the past 35 years, Ezra High, for many years a farm implement dealer in Welland, passed away yesterday at his late residence, 81 Hellems avenue. The late Mr. High was born in South Cayuga and moved to this district many years ago. He was well-known in Welland and in the surrounding district, having dealt with farmers in the county in his business.
He is survived by his wife, Eliza; two daughters, Mrs. William E. Taylor (Sadie), and Mrs. William Dixon (Pearl), both of Welland; one son, W.M. High of Niagara Falls; a sister, Mrs. Lavina Honsberger of Clarence Centre N.Y. and four grandchildren, Judith H. High, Billy J. Taylor, AC2. Allan W. Taylor and L.A.C. Lloyd E, Taylor.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, December 26, 1943, at 2.30 p.m. from the late residence, 81 Hellems avenue, to Woodlawn cemetery for interment.

Mrs. Hiram Bailey, 70 Ross street has received word from Los Angeles, Cal. Of the death of her nephew Raymond Clark Pratt at that city on December 16th. The late Mr. Pratt, who was 34 years old, was born in Welland, the only son of Hiram C. and Evelyn Hyatt Pratt. He moved with his parents to Los Angeles when eight years old and received his education there.
He was employed for 16 years by the Pacific South West bank in Los Angeles and Culver City, but resigned a few months ago to take a position in the office of the Lougheed Airplane Co. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Phillips Pratt; small daughter Marcia; his parents; two sisters Hermione, wife of Dr. Charles F. Vogel, Los Angeles and Margaret wife of John S, Chandler, Alhambra, Cal.; also a great grandmother, Mrs. H.L. Pratt.

A large number of relatives attended the funeral of the late Alfred L. Bartz, Humberstone township, yesterday afternoon. Mr. Bartz passed away at his late residence in Dain City on Sunday, December 19th. Services took place at the residence with Rev. T.A. Iseler of First Lutheran church, Humberstone, officiating.
Interment was in Overholt cemetery. The pallbearers were Edward Fiedler, Daniel Fiedler, Owen Segar, Gordon McClellan, Manuel Ort and Peter Nygren.

The funeral of Alex M. Young, who collapsed and died while at work at the Maple Leaf Milling Co., Ltd. On Wednesday, was held from the Dell and Merton funeral chapel, 50 Clarence street, Port Colborne, yesterday afternoon to Overholt’s cemetery. Rev. R.T. Rutherdale conducted the service.
The pallbearers were William Clark, Alex Fraser, Arthur Augustine and William Shepherd, all fellow employes of the deceased.
Among a number of floral tributes expressing the esteem in which deceased was held was one from the Maple Leaf Milling Co.

Funeral services were held this morning for the late Mrs. Katherine Pearson, wife of Alfred R. Pearson, 49 Dover road, who passed away Friday at the Welland County General hospital in her 65th year. There were many relatives and friends in attendance including relatives from Toronto and other out-of-town points.
The funeral was held from the J.J. Patterson and Sons funeral residence, 19 Young street, to St. Mary’s church for requiem mass with Rev. A, McMahon officiating. Interment was in Holy Cross cemetery. The pallbearers were three sons, Pte. Fred Pearson, Pte. Jacjk Pearson and Spencer Pearson, and three brothers, Albert, Joseph, and John Atherton.

Funeral for Infant
The funeral of the stillborn infant son of Bdr. John Wheatman, R.C.A. and Mrs. Wheatman (nee Grace Arthurs) of Humberstone was held from the Wehlann funeral parlors, King street, Port Colborne, Thursday afternoon to Overholt’s cemetery. Rev. Ralph P. Clark conducted the service.

Many friends were present yesterday afternoon at the funeral of the late Joseph William Clendenning, who died suddenly Saturday evening in Welland. Services were held at the Sutherland-Thorpe funeral home, 152 Hellems avenue, with Rev. L.R. Ballantyne of Central United church officiating. There was a large number of floral tributes.
Interment was in Doan’s Ridge cemetery. The pallbearers were Harry Bowman, James Waldroff, Donald Fehrman, G.C. Herrington, H.P. Thomas and J. Warwick.

Central United church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, when Rev. G. H. Knighton united in marriage Elda Florence Bender, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs Oscar Bender and Warrant Officer Robert John Arthur, R.C.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Arthur of Welland. The chancel of the church was arranged with ferns and baskets of chrysanthemums.
The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a pretty streetlength dress of powder blue wool made in twopiece style and a becoming headdress of flowers and net in a matching shade. Her colonial bouquet was of ophelia roses and chrysanthemums of the button variety with a sprig of heather sent from Scotland.
Her attendant, Mrs. Fred Schulze of Welland, wore a becoming street length dress of coral wool with a headdress similar to that worn by the bride and she, too, carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses and baby chrysanthemums.
The best man was the groom’s brother, George Arthur of Welland.
Following the ceremony a reception for the immediate families was held at Rathfon’s Inn, where the bride’s mother received wearing a dress of gold crepe with black accessories and a corsage of roses and baby chrysanthemums. The groom’s mother, who assisted, wore a nut brown crepe dress wit matching accessories and a corsage of roses and button chrysanthemums.
The bride’s table was arranged with yellow centrepiece of chrysanthemums and matching tapers in silver holders and the wedding cake.
After the reception the bride donned a black wool with silver fox coat and black hat for a wedding trip to Ottawa and eastern points. Later they will take up residence at Truro, N.S.
Before leaving, the bride presented her maternal grandmother, Mrs. F. Barrett, with her bouquet.
Guests from out-of-town included Mr. And Mrs. William English of St. Catharines and Mrs. D.L. Thomas of Victoria, B.C.
Those who entertained for the bride prior to her marriage were Mrs. S. Roos of Welland, a tea; Misses Joy Green, Ella Cowper and Mildred Fraser, a kitchen shower; and Mrs. E.J. Pietz, Miss Marylou Pietz and Mrs Alfred Kramer, a variety shower.

Suddenly at the Welland County General hospital on Saturday, December 11, 1943, Anthony Tavano, beloved husband of Helen Tavano and father of Joseph and Saverio Tavano in his 42nd year. The funeral will be held from the J,J, Patterson and Sons funeral residence, 19 Young street, on Tuesday, December 14 at 8.30 p.m. to St. Mary’s church for requiem mass at nine .Interment in Holy Cross cemetery.

A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral service yesterday for the late Anthony Tavano, 161 Bald street, who died Saturday at the Welland County General hospital. The funeral was held from the J.J. Patterson and Sons funeral home, 19 Young street, to St Mary’s church, where Rev. A McMahon officiated at requiem mass.
Interment was in Holy Cross cemetery. The pallbearers were Sam Paonessa, Angelo Trepasso, Joseph Paonessa, Sonny Paonessa, Joseph Foochuk and Sidney Convay.
