The late Abram Baker, who died at his home on Saturday, January 6th, in his 73rd year, was the son of the late Catharine Sherk and Michael Baker. Besides his wife Lillian Grant, he leaves to mourn seven sons, Kenneth of Corfu, N.Y.; Wilfred of Chippawa; Michael of Fort Erie; Charles overseas; Raymond of Stevensville; Walter of Vernon,B.C.; William at home; two daughters, Helen of Welland and Mrs Lawrence Root of Bethel; two brothers, Morley, of United States; James of Stevensville; four sisters, Mrs Curtis Morningstar, Mrs Chas. Sauer of Willoughby; Mrs N.P. Thompson of Windsor and Mrs C.D. Draper of Beamsville.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday Jan 10th, at the Climenhage funeral home Stevensville, conducted by C.T Houck, pastor of the Evangelical church. Two solos were given by Robert Heximer, “Some Day He Will Make It Plain” and “Beyond the Sunset,” Interment was at St John’s cemetery, Ridgemount, the bearers being James Sauer, Carmen Sauer, Calvin Sauer, Howard Baker, Lloyd Morningstar and Calder Morningstar.

Willoughby, Jan 17- The sudden death of an outstanding Willoughby farmer occurred at the Niagara Falls hospital on Tuesday evening, January 9th, 1945. Born in Willoughby township on February 28th, 1973, the late Edward Martin Weaver fourth son of the late Martin Weaver and Margaret Pirson Weaver, was married on Oct. 25Th 1899, to Lily Morningstar, who survives, besides four sons, Earl Orlin, Gordon and Arnold of Willoughby; two daughters, Mrs Eva Cote of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Mrs Esther Copeland of Toronto; nine grandchildren; three brothers, William Weaver of Hamilton, Albert and Abel Weaver of Willoughby; five sisters, Mrs Lorena Miller of Bertie, Mrs Clara Geyer, Miss Catherine and Miss Margaret Weaver of Buffalo, Mrs Barbara Sauer of Kenmore, N.Y. He was predeceased by two children, Edna in 1930 and Arthur in 1943.
The funeral was held from his late home on Sodom Road on Friday. Services were conducted by Rev. William Coutts. A duet was given by Mrs Crawford Tufts and Mrs George Myers, “God Will Take Care of You.” Niagara Falls pallbearers being the four sons and two sons-in-law.
The late Mr Weaver always took an active, friendly interest in his neighbors and being a lover of good horses will be missed in the Welland County ploughing matches where he always participated, last year receiving five prizes, one of these being for the oldest ploughman.
The many flowers surrounding the casket showed the high esteem in which he was held by his neighbors and friends.

Salem March 9-Salem United church services on Sunday were conducted by Rev James Hampson. Next week Sunday school will be at two o’clock, church service at three o’clock.
James Henderson’s class of young men and junior boys met at the home of Mr and Mrs C.E Strawm with Rev J. Hampson and Mr Henderson to organize a Trail Ranger group. The new officers are: President Leo Robbson; first vice-president, George Cook; secretary James Farr; treasurer, Leroy Hayward. Mr Hampson will be leader.
George Bailey was moved from the Welland County General hospital to the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Carmen Bailey at Welland before his return to his home at Salem.
Mr and Mrs C.E. Strawn, daughters, June, Shirley, son Kenneth and Mr and Mrs Kenneth Hansler and son clifford of Welland were Sunday guests of of Mr and Mrs Bill Grimwood at their home, “Woodend” Niagara Falls. Mrs Grimwood gave a birthday dinner in honor of her mother.
Mr and Mrs Leslie Swick spent Monday with Mr and Mrs Edwin Swick and son Ronald.
Mr and Mrs E. Swick and son Ronald spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs G.W. Thompson and family.
Mr ad Mrs Cecil Hagar of Cook’s Mills spent Thursday with the latter’s father M.A.Ware.
Mrs Jack Austin and daughter, Mrs Earl Strawn were supper guests of Mr and Mrs Strawn and family.
Mr and Mrs James Ball of Welland were Thursday evening guests of Mr and Mrs C.H. Willford.
Mrs Edwin Swick and son Ronald called on Mrs Harold Gent and sons Wednesday.
Mrs Harold Gent and sons Richard and Allen spent Wednesday last with Mrs Strawn and Mrs Carr.
Audrey Coyne of Welland spent a few days with Mr and Mrs Edwin Swick.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Hansler and son Clifford of Welland, Mr and Mrs Edwin Swick and son Ronald spent Wednesday evening with the Strawn family.
Mrs Harold Hodgkins and infant daughter have returned home from the Welland County General hospital.
Mrs Edwin Swick was hostess to the C.G.I.T. girls on Saturday evening. It was decided to hold a box social on March 15th at the home of Mr and Mrs C.E Strawn. Lunch was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs C. Willford and Mrs Strawn.

Open Night Held by W.A.
Salem Feb 28-An open meeting of the W.A. and missionary Society was held at the home of Mr and Mrs Asa Chambers with an attendance of around 40. The young people played crokinole and the ladies designed hats from kitchen utensils, vegetables, boxes, etc.
Prizes went to Mrs Walter Misener and Mrs George Metler. It was decided to appoint Rob Henderson, Frank Blanchard and Asa Chambers as a committee to fix the church doors before the next meeting. Mrs Hodgkins was instructed to purchase materials to finish the Red Cross quilts.
Mrs Elva Farr took charge of the missionary society meeting in the absence of Mrs Charles Bailey. It was decided to proceed with work on 10 pairs of mitts, which is the allocation for the society.
Lunch was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs Hodgkins, Mrs Elva Farr, Mrs Harry Farr, Mrs Cook and Mrs Hayward. Ice cream and birthday cake formed features of the lunch, it being Asa Chamber’s birthday.

Miss Marie Farr was taken to Welland County General hospital on Wednesday last where she underwent an appendectomy.
Mr and Mrs C.E Strawn and daughter Shirley and son Kenneth attended the I.O.O.F.. “At Home” at Fenwick on Tuesday.
Clarence Willford, Earl Misener and Bob Strawn were in toronto on Saturday and attended the hockey game in the evening.
C.E. Strawn attended the dinner meeting for supervisors and foreman and safety committee members in Welland on Thursday evening.
L/Stk Ellsworth McPherson has returned to his base on the east coast.
Mr and Mrs Asa Chambers spent the weekend with Mrs Chambers parents. Mr and Mrs E, Crow and Mr and Mrs Bill Hippwell and daughter Carol.
Clarence Willford attended the father and son banquet in Welland on Wednesday evening and had Kenneth Strawn as his guest.

Salem, Feb 22-O’Reilly’s Bridge W.I. held their February meeting at the home of Mrs Edwin Swick on Wednesday, with 20 members present. Mrs Philips the president was in the chair. Letters were read from boys in the service for boxes received. It was decided to send $5 to the I.O.D.E. as a donation for books for servicemen. Mrs Strawn reported for the visiting committee.
It was decided to send gum to the boys overseas. Two minutes silence was observed for Mrs Reece. Mrs Gent was in charge of the bird contest. The projected pot luck supper was held over till next month. Lunch was served by Mrs Swick and the lunch committee.

Salem Feb 7-Salem United church services on Sunday were conducted by Rev James Hampson. Next week Sunday school will be at two o’clock, church at three o’clock.
Salem C.G.I.T. held a meeting at the home of Misses Venita and Jacqueline Gent on Fri evening. Their guests were members of the boys’ class. After a sleigh ride they returned to the home of Mrs Gent, where refreshments were served.
The January meeting of the W.A. and W.M.S. was held at the home of Mrs C. E. Strawn with the president Mrs Hodgkins in the chair. Mrs Strawn is to be the visiting committee convener for the year. Mrs Cook reported for the Red Cross. The visiting committee reported five calls for the month.
A shower will be held at the March meeting of articles suitable to put in boxes for the boys overseas. Mrs Asa Chambers offered her home for an open meeting on the evening of February 14. Mrs Elva Farr read the scripture lesson. Salem allocation for the coming year is 10 pair of mitts. Refreshments were served by Mrs Harold Bailey, Mrs Ted Hayward and Mrs Strawn.

Mrs A. Stirtzinger was a recent guest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr and Mrs Ted Hayward.
Mrs C.E. Strawn has received word that her nephew, Cpl Jack Montgomery of the U.S. Army, who was wounded in Italy is back in the United States in hospital.

Wellandport, Jan 10- Interment service was held at Riverside cemetery, Wellandport, on Thursday afternoon for Miss Margaret Dalrymple, R.U. a former resident of this village for many years.
The late Miss Dalrymple, who was in her 87th year, was born in Gainsboro township, the youngest daughter of the late Andrew and Elspeth Anderson Dalrymple and had lived practically her whole life in this district. For a few years she lived in Fenwick and recently made her home with her nephew, Andrew Dalrymple at Smithville where she passed away on Sunday, December 31st.
She was predeceased by one sister, Miss Jean Dalrymple of Fenwick, and one brother John Dalrymple of Gainsboro.
The funeral was held at the Book funeral home on Tuesday afternoon burial being postponed until Thursday on account of drifted roads. The casket bearers were Andrew Dalrymple, Angle Dalrymple, Oliver Dalrymple, R. Vance, Marvin Fulsom and George Lounsbury.

A native of Fenwick, Mrs Mary Sauer, widow of Edward Sauer, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs C.A Pritchard, 169 West Main street, in her 76th year. She had been ill for approximately two years. Mrs Sauer was a member of the Evangelical church at Pelham centre, was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Dionis Leppert of Fonthill.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs R. Liebau (Olive) of Ridgeville and Mrs C.A. Pritchard (Bertha) of Welland; three sons, Albert, Ross and Belford Sauer of Welland; two sisters, Mrs John Mawhinney and Mrs William Wilson of Fonthill and two brothers, Dionis and Joseph Leppert. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Sauer, as well as two daughters, Anna and Violet, and one son, Eldon.
The funeral will be held from the H.L. Cudney funeral chapel, 241 West Main street, on Tuesday afternoon, January 9th, at two o’clock to Hillside cemetery, Ridgeville for interment.

Largely attended by friends and relatives from all over the district the funeral of the late Mrs Mary Sauer, who passed away in her 76th year at the home of her daughter, Mrs C.A Pritchard, 169 West Main street on Saturday following a lingering illness, was held from the H.L. Cudney funeral chapel, 241 West Main street to Hillside cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. Rev J E. Bender of the Pelham Centre Evangelical church officiated, and George Saylor sang two of deceased’s favorite sacred songs, “One Sweetly Solemn Thought,” and “Nearer, Still Nearer.” The organist was Miss Alma Sauer.
Among the many lovely floral tokens testifying to the love and esteem in which deceased had long been held were offerings from the Employes’ Association, Joseph Stokes Rubber Company and from the company’s office staff and the Ladies’ Aid of the Pelham Centre Evangelical church.
The pall bearers were Howard Brown, M.P.P. Welland; Howard Bearss, Vernon Leppert, G. Saylor, Ray Lapp and Louis S.

The death of Susanna Szabo, widow of Louis Szabo, took place yesterday at her home in Pelham township, in her 70th year. Born in Hungary, the late Mrs Szabo came to Canada 20 years ago, residing for five years in Thorold township and the past 15 years in Pelham township. Her husband predeceased her a few years ago.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Stephen Hallay, (Mary) in Hungary; Miss Julia Szabo of Toronto; Mrs Jonos Gere (Bessie) of Welland; three sons, Frank, Stephen and James, all of Pelham township; two grandchildren, Harvey and Shirley Gere, and three brothers and two sisters, all in Hungary.
The funeral will take place from the Sutherland-Thorpe funeral home, 152 Hellems avenue, on Sunday, January 7th at two p.m. to Fonthill cemetery for interment.

Mrs Susanna Szabo
A large number of friends and neighbors yesterday afternoon attended funeral services for the late Mrs Susanna Szabo, widow of Louis Szabo, at the Sutherland-Thorpe funeral home, 152 Hellems avenue. Rev A.D. Sutherland of St Andrew’s Presbyterian church officiated and William Massey presided at the organ. Several Hungarian hymns were also sung, with Joseph Marcus at the organ and Bert Bajzos as leader.
Interment was in Fonthill cemetery and the casket bearers were L.Bogar, L. Szabo.B. Kertesz, J. Svob. G. Schneider and A. Kiss.

The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs James Potyok, 437 Oakwood avenue, Humberstone, yesterday of Rosalie Fabi, wife of John Fabi, in her 62nd year. Death followed an illness of some three years.
The late Mrs Fabi was born at Forgolany, Hungary, and had resided in this district for the past 35 years. She was a member of All People’s Mission, Port Colborne.
Surviving are her husband, John; four sons, George Steve, John and Joseph in Port Colborne and Humberstone. Three daughters, Mrs Joseph Sathmary, Lorraine, and Mrs James Potyok and Miss Helen Fabi, Humberstone; 15 grandchildren and two sisters in Hungary
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 10, from the Dell and Merton funeral chapel at 2p.m. to Oakwood cemetery Rev Chas Farkas will conduct the service.

The funeral of the late Rosalie Fabi, wife of John Fabi, whose death occurred at her daughter’s residence 437 Oakwood avenue, Humberstone, on Monday, was held yesterday from the Dell and Merton funeral chapel, 50 Clarence street, Port Colborne to Oakwood cemetery. Rev Charles Farkas of Welland conducted the service which was largely attended by relatives ad friends including those from St Catharines and Buffalo, N.Y.
The pallbearers were Frank Sperhar, Thomas Goyvik, Charles Hegedus, George Pinter, Steve Potyok and Geza Szabo.
Among a number of beautiful floral tributes were those of the Humberstone Ten Pin Bowling league, Girls of the third floor of the Humberstone Show Co., Bridgemen and scrapmen of the old end of No 5 buiding at International Nickel Co., and employes of Humberstone Shoe Co.
